I was asked by My Good friend Mike Wood RPT to reproduce some post caps with ball finials for a gentleman to replace some existing ones that were in a bad way.

The originals were made from pine and the weather had got the best of them so I suggested that we made them in a more durable material.

Because the cost of the turning was the better part of the job a few pounds more to make them from a more durable timber made sense.

I had a price for some Sapele to make them and when I got to the timber yard They had some oak offcuts that would be even better and the merchants sold them to me for the same price as the sapele.

As i am getting a few spheres to turn I decided to purchase a Paul Howard Sphere jig. This cuts down the turning time and the spheres are more accurate.

The jig was very easy to set up and use and the cost was reasonable and will pay for itself in just a few jobs.

Again an enjoyable job and now they are ready to go to their new home.

This was an interesting project.

A gentleman contacted me and asked if I could make some parts for a Windsor chair. It has three broken spindles and the four legs had been shortened and where in poor condition, they also did not match very well.

I turned up the parts using a recently made centre steady. I returned them to the client and he was very happy with them. I asked him to send me a picture of the completed opus. I think you will agree that it is a very good restoration project.

Remember that I am available for commissions of all types of turning.

An interesting project for a furniture maker. He was reproducing a set of Library Steps as a copy of an existing set that had fallen into disrepair. He did not do woodturning so he asked me to make the spindle. As it was nearly 1M long it gave me the opportunity to try out my bed extention and cenrtre steady.
