As a youngster, I enjoyed repairing and making things. I also learned to play the accordion and the tuba with the school brass band. I started my working life at 15 and spent ten years with the Grenadier Guards Band performing Public duties and touring many countries but I never lost his interest in woodwork and my desire to have my own workshop.

I have worked for the last thirty-five years as a self-employed builder, much of my work being carpentry and joinery and in 2010 I decided that it was time for a new challenge. I built a workshop and equipped it with a lathe and other woodworking Machinery.

I joined the Middlesex Woodturners Association and the Association of Woodturners Great Britain and have learned much from them. We are a very diverse group and are always willing to share our knowledge and skills with one another. Along with the Middlesex Woodturners. I exhibit my work at art and craft shows several times a year, selling what I have made and demonstrating my craft on the lathe.

I am also called on to give demonstrations to social groups where my wife Julie helps me by stewarding the sales table. I enjoy giving evening demonstrations to my club and always have something new to show them. I also give instruction to other turners in my workshop.

I do not specialise in one type of turning but likes to diversify and experiment with styles. I tend to use texture and decorative finishes more than most and turn Items from an 18” bowl, down to a segmented hollow form made from 274 pieces of wood and weighing only three grams which can be found in my blog.

I have won the “Turner of the Year” competition at the club twice and have had some success at woodturning shows with a best in show for my Saturn Box, a second at Surrey woodturners for the wasp, and a highly recommended for “A Load of Balls” which are to be found in the gallery.

I still work as a builder and also play with The Hillingdon Philharmonic Orchestra but can often be found in my workshop attempting to explore the innards of a piece of wood.
